May 1st General Meeting!

Our May 1st meeting is our “Women’s Symposium” featuring speakers from several organizations in the Anchorage area servicing and working with women and families.  Hilary Morgan will speak for the YWCA, Turner Vail will represent the AWAIC shelter, Shelia Parker will speak for Covenant House, and Margaret Duggan will talk to us about the WIC program.  There are so many women who could use our support and “political action” on their behalf.  Please come and share your ideas about how we can be a solution to some of the challenges facing women and children in our community. It’s up to us to get involved!  A light supper will be available for a donation at 5:30, and the meeting will start at 6:00 PM.  We would love a big group to make a difference!

Great showing for our candidates!

Congratulations to the endorsed and supported candidates who were successful in  this week’s Assembly and School Board races.  All of the candidates we supported and endorsed won!  We are so happy for Bettye Davis, Eric Croft, Paul Honeman, and Tim Steele for their fine showing!  We are even happier that they are now in a position to support causes that advocate for women and women’s issues in the schools and in our city.  Way to go!

Monthly meeting April 3rd!

Our monthly meeting on April 3rd will feature a program on the Alaska Veterans Organization for Women, newly founded in Alaska in partnership with the Alaska Veterans Foundation.  Vanessa Meade will be our guest speaker and will address the needs of Alaska’s women veterans.  It promises to be a very enlightening and valuable presentation, and we look forward to many questions about the many pressing issues facing women in the military today from our audience.  We will be meeting at Centerpoint Building, 3801 Centerpointe Drive.  Light supper will be offered at 5:30 and the program will start at 6:00 PM.

At our March 6th meeting, the members unanimously approved the Endorsement Committee report and have put forward our slate of recommended candidates for the April 2013 municipal election.  We urge all of you to support and help as much as you can to get these outstanding candidates elected.

Endorsement Meeting! March 6, 2013

Our endorsement meeting for the five candidates who have signed our baseline, will be March 6, 2013, from 5:30-7:00 PM.  Following light snacks, our candidates will introduce themselves and tell us about their campaigns.  In addition to this, Paul Honeman, who is running unopposed, will fill us in on the issues before the Assembly right now!  Miriam Laudau from Planned Parenthood, will also be on hand to bring us up to date on the attacks on women in our state from the Alaska Legislature in Juneau.  These are important issues for us!  We need all your help and support right now!!

Meet us at the Centerpoint Building, 3801 Centerpointe Drive on Weds.!   We are looking forward to a positive and productive meeting!

 $50 members, $60 non-members, includes buffet, speaker, silent and live auctions, and great networking!   
 Coffee and dessert is available for $10.

The AWPA Annual Meeting will also feature a silent auction. 
 Auction items in the past have included  gift baskets, artwork by well known artists, nice jewelry, and meals with notable local politicians. 
 All proceeds will support women candidates and AWPA’s operations.

 Doors open at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at 11:45, our program and auction, and ends with the annual business meeting.
